

ABOUT US
Youth Action Rangers of Nigeria (YARN) is a youth-led, youth-focused, non-profit making and non-governmental organization promoting youth development and empowerment programmes especially youth sexual/ reproductive health,Information Technology Programmes and HIV/AIDS prevention among young people. The organization is registered with the Corporate Affairs Commission (CAC) Abuja.
YARN is also registered and recognized by related Government, Non-Governmental and International Non-Governmental Organizations and agencies. These include Civil Society Consultative Group on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CiSGHAN), Lagos State HIV/AIDS Control Agency (LSACA), Lagos State Ministry of Health (MoH) and Lagos Mainland Local Government.YARN has since 1996 distinguished itself as a notable youth N.G.O.YARN is also committed to ensuring that youth plays an active role in the decision-making processes on issues that affect them.
YARN envisions a society where the youth will have access to comprehensive and correct information on sexual and reproductive health, a society where youth are involved in making decisions on matters that affect them.
To empower young people with information and skills that will help them make responsible decisions about their reproductive and sexual health through information sharing, education, communication, training and advocating for policy change on all issues affecting youth.
(a) Training
of youth in leadership and reproductive/sexual health programs
(b) Managing community-based reproductive and sexual health programs
(c) Youth Development activities through capacity building activities such
as seminars, workshops and conferences
(d) Counselling services for adolescent reproductive and sexual health including
HIV/AIDS
(e) Media and public outreach activities
(f) Advocacy and community mobilization
(g) Internet-Based Intervention Programs.
(h) Consultancy services through training and program planning.
(i) Youth-friendly and interactive behaviour change communication programs.
YARN currently
implement its activities through five (6) units, which are categorized as
follows:
• Policy & Advocacy
• Training & Capacity Building
• Behaviour Communication Change (BCC)/ Internet-Based Intervention
• Health Services
• Admin/ Finance
• e-Centre
As a youth-led NGO based in Lagos State, YARN has successfully implemented programs within Lagos and its environs. The programs implemented so far have been in partnership with other youth-led, and Youth-Serving Non-Governmental Organizations. YARN at several programs has involved the Government in its programs, through collaboration in planning and implementation of programs. Therefore, YARN has the both social and political recognition and participation in its programs at Local, State and National levels.
YARN belongs
to a number of national and international bodies and groups with similar aspiration
and hopes. These include:
i) Lagos State HIV/AIDS Control Agency (LSACA)
ii) Network of Adolescent and Youth of Africa (NAYA)
iii) Civil Society Consultative Group on HIV/AIDS in Nigeria (CISGHAN)
iv) Youth Against AIDS (YAAIDS) Network.
v) Youth Employment Summit (YES) Network.
vi) Treatment Action Group (TAG)
vii) Global AIDS Alliance Network (GAAN)
YARN has a staff strength of 10 and over 100 as volunteers with varying degree of capabilities in managing youth sexual and reproductive health programs. The staff have a wide range of experiences in sexual/ reproductive health, youth development programs,Information Technology Programmes and NGO management and sustainability. They have at various periods participated in programs design and implementation for other NGOs both at local and international platforms. This has contributed significantly to the level of activities being implemented at Y.A.R.N.The Admin/Finance Unit of YARN provides guidance to financial management and administrative support to daily operations of the Organization.
In recognition of Y.A.R.N. contribution to the development of the Nigerian youth,it recently received the Nigerian Youth Annual Leadership Award.This award was hosted by Leap Africa with support from NOKIA and I.Y.F.
